Marigold flowers used for natural dyeing

Meet Akané

Akané are sisters Janhavi and Juhi, who run a natural and artisanal dye studio in Mumbai, India. Together with local artisans, they turn flowers, seeds, roots and leaves into soft, living colour – and they dye and make all of our cushions and most of our bandanas.

Who they are

From their studio in Mumbai, they create naturally dyed, versatile and timeless pieces. They respect every step of the making process: working with local artisans, sourcing locally and aiming for zero waste.

Their colours come from what nature offers close by – flowers, seeds, roots and leaves. For them, a product should hold value, not just answer a moment of consumption.

“Creating value rather than just a need for consumption.”

Janhavi & Juhi

Meet Janhavi and Juhi, the sisters behind Akané.

Akané began as Dye Works, a graduation project by Janhavi during her design studies. Watching the documentary The True Cost, about the impact of fast fashion, made her rethink the way she lived and worked.

After years of travelling, learning and experimenting, the project grew into Akané: a slow fashion studio offering a thoughtful, sustainable alternative. Today, Janhavi and Juhi work side by side with local artisans to bring every naturally dyed piece to life.
